![]() ![]() Silverbacks and gorillas in general are the largest primates in the world with its strength being equivalent of 15 humans that is crazy!!! Isn’t it? But it is true. The silverback’s dominance of the family is determined by the silverback gorilla strength which usually is enhanced by weight and size. They live in groups/ families of individuals amounting up to 15, the families are headed by silverbacks who are the alpha males. Gorillas share 98% of their DNA with humans there by refereeing to them as human’s distant relatives. About half of the entire mountain gorilla population live in Uganda in the above mentioned national park. Mountain gorillas in the entire world can only be found in Rwanda in volcanos national park, Congo in Virunga national park and in Uganda at bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park. Troop size averages five to ten but can be up to 30 individuals. Western lowland gorillas are non-aggressive, social great apes (group of primates including orangutans, chimpanzees and bonobos) living in family groups called troops. Gorillas are also hunted for bushmeat by humans. The only threat from a wild predator is the leopard.
